Laser cutting mylar stencils.

I use 120um mylar films rotate the stencil by 45deg and run the laser in raster mode. There is no frame squeegee or solder paste included. I ve experimented with this too and it turns out you can do even stencils for 0 5mm pitch parts. When laser cutting stencils i use a backer board and a dash of repositionable spray adhesive.

This material is widely used for stencils because it is so easy to clean and stencil with. The adhesive will prevent the detached mylar pieces from being blown around during the cutting process. Mylar can be cleaned with most solvents and it can be reused many times for a stencil that will last for years. The stencils are just a piece of thin plastic with a bunch of holes cut in it.

At lci we specialize in laser cut mylar stencils. You can find the adhesive i use on amazon by clicking here. The finest pitch we can handle is approximately 0 5 mm and we strongly recommend that fine pitch stencils be cut from the 3 mil mylar. Mylar is otherwise know as polyester film.
